A breath of fresh air during these troubled times was witnessed on the evening of Teachers Day at the historical Bishop House in Kolkata. In a small gathering following all safety protocols, a brilliant initiative to encourage and reward education excellence was started by the Diocese of Calcutta on the occasion of Teachers Day Saturday 05th September. The Rt. Rev Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Calcutta, CNI along with eminent sports personality Mr Deep Dasgupta, Ex-National Indian cricketer formally inaugurated the “Bishop Canning Education Awards 2020” where all the successful students of the CNI schools who have topped in their respective Board examinations of ICSE, ISC, Madhyamik and Higher Secondary were rewarded andfelicitated for their brilliant efforts. The Head of the Institutions of all the the topper schools was also felicitated by the beloved Bishop. The occasion was graced by the august presence of many heads of institutions and eminent members of the Diocese of Calcutta.
As per the famous words of Nelson Mandela -“Education is the most powerful weapon which can change the world.”–all the successful students were advised by the Beloved Bishop to strive for further excellence and put in more hard work to make their education help them bring about change in this world. Eminent sports commentator and ex national Indian cricketer Mr Deep Dasgupta gave his valuable advise to the students to learn through years of hard work and practice to achieve perfection in whatever they do in their lives. The brilliant initiative was deeply appreciated by all the people present in the limited gathering and dreams were set in place for a more grand occasion in the years to come when the world sees a change from these troubled times of Covid.
